In my guise as the Gendersaurus Rex, I’m very proud and excited to announce the artist call out for Imaginate’s Gender and Sexual Identity Lab as part of the Creative Europe-funded PUSH project. PUSH is a 2-year artist development project funded by Creative Europe, led by Imaginate alongside Krokus Festival (Belgium), The Ark (Ireland), Aabendans(Denmark)and Scenekunstbruket (Norway).

STUD at Queer Contact 16

STUD : 4-6 Feb, 9:30pm as part of Queer Contact 2016 in Manchester, supported by Word of Warning

I’m very excited that STUD will be part of the opening weekend of Queer Contact in Manchester in a few weeks, alongside some really amazing performers like Andy Bell from Erasure and legendary Gender Outlaw, Kate Bornstein.

Here’s my little video again to give you a wee teaser of the show…

STUD at BUZZCUT weekender at Forest Fringe

Currently in Brighton on a residency at the Marlborough Theatre hosted by the delightful Pink Fringe. Among other things, I’m using the time to develop and rehearse my new solo show, STUD, which I’ll be sharing again in Edinburgh at the end of Forest Fringe. It’s a privilege to be part of a really strong programme at Forest Fringe who have supported my work from way back.

It’s also great to be curated as part of the BUZZCUT weekender which will showcase a group of wonderful artists (and lovely people) who showed early versions of their work at BUZZCUT’s Glasgow festival in April and then went on a residency together in the Highlands. This was supported by the Jerwood Charitable Foundation and facilitated by Richard Layzell.

Tickets are pay what you can and are going fast – you can book them here: http://stud.brownpapertickets.com/

If it says they’re sold out, there’s a fair chance you’ll still be able to get in if you come along, and at any rate you should definitely check out the rest of the programme at Forest Fringe because it will all be excellent – http://forestfringe.co.uk/edinburgh2015/artists/

Under Construction

Currently I’m working on a new site for all things MacAskill, but it’s taking time! Here’s an update while we wait…

This summer I’m in residence at the delightful and bijou Marlborough Theatre in Brighton being supported by those darlings of the queer perfoance scene, Pink Fringe. I’m working on Gendersaurus Rex and collaborating with Emma Frankland and Rosana Cade on separate projects.

What is Gendersaurus Rex? A research project looking at gender, sexuality, queerness and difference in children’s performance. I’m supported by Imaginate and am blogging about it at gendersaurusrex.wordpress.com

What am I doing with Ms Cade? Well, we’re exploring ways to create small cabaret performances as a duo. This Friday 10th July we’ll be at Hi-Brow hosted by the wonderful Figs In Wigs presenting something new for their beach party theme. Then next week we’ll be at Latitude with Forest Fringe as Double Pussy Clit F*** – our riot grrrl band for one audience member at a time.

On Thursday night at Latitude I’ll be performing STUD as part of Steakhouse Live’s line- up in the live art tent. You can also catch STUD on the last weekend of Forest Fringe in Edinburgh as part of BUZZCUT’s takeover.

So it’s all go, which I think is a perfect reason for having neglected my web presence, but watch this space….
